I just received my printer on 14 Nov, set up and tried to print it today. I tried to print from my laptop using HP Smart Printing but the alignment is out even though I selected A4 size paper.
I tried to print using HP8711AC (Smart Tank 710-720 series) but it showed that the printer was offline status. How do I resolve this offline status? How do I resolve the paper size issue as well?
Appreciate if anyone can advise me. Thank you in advance.

Hi @Melody2205,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing two separate issues with your new HP Smart Tank 720 All-in-One Printer. Here's how to resolve them:
1. Printer Offline Status
The offline status typically occurs due to connectivity issues between your printer and computer. Follow these steps to troubleshoot:
Check Printer Connection:
- If you're using a Wi-Fi connection:
- Ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop.
- Restart your router and printer to refresh the connection.
- If you're using a USB connection, verify the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer.
Set the Printer Online:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your printer and select See what’s printing.
- In the new window, click Printer in the menu bar, then uncheck Use Printer Offline if it’s selected.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Open the HP Smart app and check for any firmware or driver updates for your printer.
- Alternatively, download the latest drivers for the HP Smart Tank 720 series from the HP Support website.
Test Printer Status:
- Try printing a test page from Devices and Printers or the HP Smart app.
2. Paper Size and Alignment Issues Printing an alignment page on an HP printer
Misalignment and incorrect paper size settings can cause formatting problems. Here's how to address these:
Set the Correct Paper Size:
- In the HP Smart app or the print settings on your computer:
- Open the Print Dialog when printing a document.
- Under Paper Size, select A4.
- Save the settings.
Check Printer Settings:
- On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Paper Handling (or a similar menu).
- Verify the paper size is set to A4.
Align the Printheads:
- Use the HP Smart app:
- Open the app and go to Printer Settings.
- Select Tools and then Align Printheads.
- Follow the instructions to complete the alignment.
Load Paper Properly:
- Make sure the paper is aligned correctly in the tray and is not bent or curled.
Reset Print Preferences:
- In the print dialog box, select Preferences or Properties and reset them to defaults, then reapply your desired settings.
If the Issues Persist
- Perform a printer reset:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it for 60 seconds, and then plug it back in.
- Check for any error messages on the printer display or in the HP Smart app.
If none of these steps resolve your issues, let me know, and we can explore further troubleshooting options.
