Our printer seemed to be updating software and since then, we can't print. I'm on a Mac and get this message when I hit print for any document - Printing - The printer is in use

 

No other docs are queued. No other computer in the house - Windows and Chromebook- can print either so don't think it's my computer.

As you are able to print from other computers, it means the printer is working fine.

  • Which application are you trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?

 

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your MAC.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

 

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

 

Perform a ping test to check the connectivity

  1. Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
  2. On the MAC Go to Spotlight > search for Network utility > select Ping tab > enter the IP address of the printer in the box
  3. Check the second box that says Send only > 10 pings
  4. Click on ping > Check the results at the end if any packets are lost
  5. Note: There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.

If the issue persists, reinstall the printer using the AirPrint driver

 

Click the Apple menu, and then select System Preferences.

Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Click the name of your printer, click the Minus sign, and then delete all the envy 5540 printer entries.

Select printer and click the minus sign

Click the Plus sign, and then click Add Printer or Scanner.

Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select AirPrint

Click Add to add the printer to the list.
