Hey hey! Just purchased an HP DeskJet 4255e. The printer is wirelessly connected.

Anytime I send a document to print, the printer first spits out a blank page - which makes two sided printing a major hassle.

I've looked at whether there is a separator page settings on somewhere and can't find one. Drivers are updated, etc.

The other interesting piece of info is when I print a test sheet or anything it prints WITHOUT the additional page.

Anyone know what I should do?

Hi @quadeae,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your HP DeskJet 4255e is printing a blank page before each print job, but only with certain print commands, not test pages. This can be caused by several settings or software issues. Here are a few steps to help resolve the issue.

Check for Separator Page Settings (On the Printer or Computer)

Windows:

  • Go to Control PanelDevices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select Printer Properties.
  • Go to the Advanced tab and look for an option called Separator Page. Ensure it is set to None.

Mac:

  • Go to System PreferencesPrinters & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and click Options & Supplies.
  • Check if there's any "Separator Page" option or similar setting.

Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver

  • Even if drivers seem up to date, there may be a configuration issue. Try reinstalling the latest driver from HP’s support page.
  • After reinstalling, run a test print to see if the issue persists.

Check for Print Queue Issues

  • Sometimes leftover print jobs in the queue can cause blank pages.
  • Windows: Right-click your printer icon → See what’s printingCancel all documents.
  • Mac: Go to Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and clear any pending jobs.

Check Application-Specific Settings

  • If the issue only occurs when printing from specific apps (like Word or PDFs), check the print settings within those apps. Disable any extra print options that could cause the blank page.
  • Try printing from a different application to rule out a software-specific issue.

Disable Double-Sided Printing Temporarily

  • If two-sided printing is causing a blank page between jobs, try disabling it temporarily and then testing single-sided printing to see if the blank pages disappear.

Reset the Printer

  • You can reset the printer to factory settings to clear any misconfigurations.
    • On your printer, go to SettingsRestore Defaults.
    • Reconnect the printer to your wireless network and try printing again.

Firmware Update

  • Sometimes, HP releases firmware updates that resolve issues like this. Check the HP Support site for any available firmware updates for your model and install them if needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
