Pro 8600 N911n not recognizing 950XL CN045AN, but seems to recognize CN045A when depleted cartridge reinserted. Tried cleaning contacts, power down and restart with unplugging power cord, had 2 pack of new genuine 950XL CN045AN black cartridges and both react the same. Firmware CLP1CN2011AR says up to date. Worked so well up until the black needed changing. Love this printer until now! Any magic still out there for these?

Hi @Checker-24
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I understand that you are facing issues with new ink cartridges. I'd like to help!
Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges? Are you facing issues with both color and black?
Check if Protective strips are removed.
Meanwhile please follow the steps below.
Please print a Printer Status Report as follows: touch the front panel, touch the right arrow, Setup, touch Down, Reports, Printer Status Report. Please report the results on lines 6, 42, and 43.
Reset the printer memory:
- Remove your new cartridge and replace it with the old one. Leave your printer and go and do something else for 10 minutes.
- Replace the old cartridge with the new one again. These two steps alone often resolve the issue, so see if your printer now recognizes your new cartridges. However, if you’re still having trouble…
- Remove the new cartridge. Make sure you place it in a clean and safe place where the cartridge or the surface won’t be damaged.
- Turn the printer off using its power button
- Unplug your printer from the wall. It’s important to do both steps 4 and 5 separately, as some printers can remain in sleep mode if you’ve only switched off the power button on the printer control panel. Leave your printer like this for about 10 minutes or so.
- Plug your printer back in at the wall (but don’t press the power button just yet)
- Insert your new cartridge
- Press the power button on your printer
Hopefully, you should be able to now print with your new compatible ink or toner cartridge! Let me know if this works.
Keep me posted.

Hi Raj2111,
Unfortunately neither of these solutions helped with either of the 2 new cartridges I have. I could not follow the power up sequence you called out exactly as when plugging back in the print head carriage goes back to its resting position and you can not insert the new cartridge unless you hit the power button to bring the carriage to the service position.
To work around the carriage position challenge I even tried unplugging before powering off so the carriage would stay in the service position, waited 15 min and plugged back in. No luck, same error:
"There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off then back on. If problem persists contact HP."

Hi Raj2111,
Sorry I did not answer your other questions, printer status report will not print as it says I must replace the deleted Black (K) cartridge, I can only get to this screen by putting the old cartridge back in.
