Hi i am having troube setting up connectivity to my MacBook using a USB cable. I have installed the printer using HP Smart. I am able to print documents directly from my phone using HP Smart. However, when I try to print from my Mac the printer "on/off" switch just keeps blinking and does not produce any output.
I can see the printer in the HP Smart app, and it shows that its connected with an USB connection. The moment I print the status of the printer changes to "Status unavailable" and after some time the blinking of the on/off switch stops and the printer becomes available once again, but no print out. The print queue show as job sent to printer or sometimes it shows as printer not found.
I have already tried with 2 different USB cable and also tried on 2 different usb ports from my Mac, including re-starting my MAc post installation. Appreciate any advice on how to resolve this. Thank you.

@Suchet, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your MAC.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Check and confirm the printer connectivity to your MAC:
- From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
- Click System Report.
- Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.
- USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus
Once the printer is listed under USB, install the printer using AirPrint driver:
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
6.) Try to print.
Let me know how this goes.

Kumar,
Thanks for your reply. I have tried what you suggested, but I am still not able to print, I have stopped trying to connect thru wifi and as the first step connected thru a usb cable.
I have connected the printer to my iMac using a usb cable. I am able to scan documents, the printer on the HP Smart app shows as online, however when I try to print, the "on/off" switch just blinks and the printer on the HP Smart App shows up as busy, but on the Print Queue the printer shows up as not available. After sometime the item on the print queue disappears and the "on/off" switch stops blinking, the printer once again show up as online and available to print.
I am now certain that there must be some software or h/w defect with the product as its odd that I can scan thru the usb connection but cannot print. I have tried printing directly from a pdf, word, xl and website, I have also tried using the "Doc Print" option on the HP Smart app, but I am getting the same result each time - No Print!!

I'm replying on behalf of @Kumar0307 as he is unavailable for the day.
The iMac that you are using do they have USB 2.0 ports or USB 3.0 ports?
Do you have any security software or antivirus installed on your MAC?
First please check if the printer is getting detected on the iMac.
- From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
- Click System Report.
- Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.
- USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus.
Turn the WiFi off on your printer.
Push the WiFi button to turn it off. You should not see a blue light if it's turned off.
Now Go to the Apple Menu > System Preferences > Printers and Scanners
Select each printer and remove all the printers available by clicking on the '-' sign.
Restart the MAC.
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Printers and Scanners
Click on the '+' sign to add the printer. Select the Printer (USB multifunction) and add it.
Try to print again.
Let me know what happens.
