I purchased a Linksys 1200+ router to replace my old Netgear N300. I connected to my desktop running Vista 32 bit and laptop running Windows 10 64 bit no problem. The desktop is hardwired to the router but the laptop is wireless. I followed the "Set up wireless (802.11) communication" in the getting started guide and used the Wizard. The printer found the network, I clicked on it, held the button on the router for 3 seconds. The printer ran the setup for 1.5 minutes then produced message: "Error occurred while setting up network through Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)." repeated attempts got same message. I then tried clicking on "Skip" rather than holding the router button & entered the network password. Again I got a message that a setup error occurred. I printed out the Wireless Test Report:
Wireless On = Pass
Wireless Working = Pass
Network Name (SSID) Found = Pass
Security = FAIL
When I print from either my desktop or my laptop it will actually print but takes several minutes. When the first document printed the printer had message: 'There is a problem with the printer. Ref to documentation )x610000f6".
There is no blue wi-fi light on the printer, neither solid nor blinking.
I'm not tech savy so I have no idea what is going on. Did I disable the security when I skipped the button routine?

Totally uninstall all HP software and remove the printer from your Win 10 system.
Use http://www.iobit.com/en/advanceduninstaller.php . Use Powerful Scan at the end and delete all registry entries shown.
Now go back and install the Win 10 software from the HP web site.

Restored default settings. Ran Wizzard. Same results. FYI I also tried using the PIN assigned by the printer and added to the router software but that didn't work either. Couldn't find the device or something like that.
I saw a post where someone ran the wizzard from a laptop connected to the printer with USB cord. Problem is the Wizzard is no longer supported by HP so I don't know how they did the setup. Any clues?

OK, last night I connected my printer to my laptop via USB cable. I then went to the HP support website and updated drivers. I then went through the setup process via laptop and it worked. Ran the Wireless Network test report and result was "no problems found". I disconnected the USB cable as instructed, then tried printing from my desktop. Worked great. However, when I try to print from my laptop it does not work. Network shows connected and secured. Laptop, desktop, printer, and router all show as "Online". I tried changing the 2.4 channel to 1, 6, and 11 and width to 20 MHz. Still no printing. Again, my desktop is running Vista and the router is hard wired to it while the laptop is running Windows 10 64 bit and is wireless to the router. I can get on line with the laptop no problem. I've tried printing with the laptop close (2 ft.) to the router as well as in another room. Nothing works.
I'm assuming that the your suggestion to remove security is not needed since the printer is now connected to the network. Correct?
I do appreciate your suggestions.

The desktop running Vista connects to the printer just fine. It's the laptop with Windows 10 that does not connect. What I downloaded and installed was "Driver - Product Installation" from the HP Available Software for Windows 10 64 bit. Not sure if that's what allowed setup of the printer to the network. Perhaps it was just the fact that I was doing it from the laptop vs the printer screen & Wizzard. I also downloaded and installed ePrint version 5.2 although I can't imagine that would cause the problem. And it did not - still no printing. The printer has the latest revison of firmware CIP1FN1621AR so that's not the issue. Router firmware is also current.
What am I missing?

Will the website uninstall the software and remove the printer or do I have to go to the control panel to remove the printer? How to I add the printer back in? I don't want to lose my desktop capability. I'm a rookie so want to be certain of what I'm doing. 🙂 Thanks.
