HP DeskJet 2755e All-in-One Printer

Brand new HP 2755e.  The ! Icon in the Icon Display is always sold black and the light next to the I button is always a solid orange.  I have done multiple resets and reinstalls.  Nothing changes.  The printer works fine, just disconcerting to have two error indicators on all the time.

Any ideas on what is causing the problem?

Hi @taiho,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The HP DeskJet 2755e showing a solid black exclamation mark ("!") and an orange light next to the "i" button is a common issue that can point to a few possible problems. Since you mentioned the printer is working fine despite the indicators, it suggests that it might be a minor issue or a persistent display error. Below are troubleshooting steps to try and resolve this:

Check for Paper Jams

  • Paper jams are a common cause of error indicators.
  • Turn off the printer, unplug it, and carefully check inside the paper path (input and output trays) for any stuck paper.
  • If you find any paper jam, gently remove it.

Check Ink Cartridges

  • The error light may appear if the ink cartridges are improperly installed or need to be reseated.
  • Open the printer and ensure both ink cartridges are properly installed, making sure they click into place.
  • If the cartridges are installed correctly, remove and reinstall them to ensure a good connection.

Check Printer Queue

  • Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause the printer to display error indicators.
  • On your computer, go to the printer queue and cancel any pending or stuck print jobs.
  • On Windows:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click your HP printer and select See what's printing.
    • Cancel any print jobs.
  • On Mac:
    • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Click on your HP printer and cancel any pending jobs.

Check the Wireless Connection (If Applicable)

  • If your printer is connected to Wi-Fi, a connection issue can cause the error indicator.
  • Check the status of your Wi-Fi network and make sure the printer is still connected to the correct network.
  • Try printing a test page or performing a network diagnostic test from the printer's control panel (if available).

Reset the Printer (Again)

  • You mentioned performing resets, but try a full power reset:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet.
    • Wait for 60 seconds.
    • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
    • Sometimes, this can clear temporary errors or communication issues that don’t always go away with software resets.

Firmware Update

  • It's possible that the error indicators are due to a bug in the printer’s firmware.
  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date by checking for updates in the HP Smart app or through HP's official website.

You can refer to this guide for information on error codes and blinking light patterns.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I spent an hour with HP Support working through the situation before posting my question.   We did all the things you suggested, and the support person even connected to my phone camera to make sure I was doing things correctly.  Finally she reached out to her supervisor who told her that was the normal status.  Obviously it's not normal status unless the support staff and the user guides are seriously misleading.

My printer is still working fine and now I do have a case number in case something should go wrong in the future.  I'm still very curious if anybody else has experienced this situation.

Hey there! @taiho 😄,

Thanks for sharing your experience!

It sounds like the support team did their best, but I totally get why you’re still feeling a bit puzzled. It’s like when your coffee doesn’t taste the same as it does at your favorite café—something just feels off! 😅

Glad to hear your printer is still working fine! 🙌 and having a case number is like keeping an umbrella in case of a surprise storm—always good to have just in case!

As for whether others have had the same situation, it’s definitely possible. Sometimes these “normal” things are just little quirks.

If you need anything else, just let us know! We’re here to make sure your printer keeps running smoothly.

Take care and happy printing! 😊
