HP Envy 5010
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hi, I'm in the process of installing a HP Envy 5010 via my iPhone, and after I got to a certain point I wasn't able to connect to the 'HP-setup...' wifi network to continue the installation. The only HP wifi available is the HP Direct one, but that doesn't look like the setup one and it's looking for a password. The printer screen says it's connected to my wifi but waiting for web services. I've seen posts saying to press the wifi button, but nothing happens when I do this.

Thanks in advance.

@LorraineH73, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Restore the network settings and connect the printer to your Home wireless network

  1. From the home screen of your printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon .

  2. Touch the Setup icon .

  3. Touch Restore Network Defaults or Restore Network Settings, and then touch Yes to confirm your selection.

  4. After the default network settings are restored, touch the back arrow, touch Wireless Settings, and then touch Wireless Setup Wizard.

The printer searches for available networks.

  5. Touch the name of your wireless network.

  6. Type the WEP or WPA key (network password), and then touch Done.

If you do not know your network password, go to Find Your Wireless WEP, WPA, WPA2 Password..

Once the printer connects to the wireless network, the blue Wireless light on the control panel turns on solid.

  • Make sure the printer and the iPhone are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network.

print from your iOS device using AirPrint

  1. Make sure the printer is turned on, ink cartridges are installed, and plain paper is loaded in the main tray.

  2. Open the item you want to print, and then tap the Share icon or .

  3. Tap Print or the Print icon to open Printer Options.

  4. Tap Select Printer to select your printer.

  5. Change any of the following print job settings. Available settings vary depending on the app you are printing from, the print job type, and your printer.

    • Paper: Make any paper size changes on the printer. AirPrint automatically detects the paper size loaded in the printer or the size selected on the printer control panel. If the detected size is different than the paper in the tray, an error might display asking to confirm the size.

    • Number of copies: Select how many copies you want to print.

    • Black & White: Select to print in grayscale. This option only displays for color printers.

    • Double-sided printing: Print on both sides of the paper for certain file types.

Have you tried performing a power reset on the printer?

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Power ON the printer and check if you can reach the home screen of the printer.

Note: Connect the printer to the router directly and check instead of connecting it to an extender.

If power resetting the printer does not help, a factory reset has to be performed on the printer.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi, thanks for the response. I'm afraid that didn't work - how do I perform a factory reset?

@LorraineH73

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
  • In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

Keep me posted.

Hi, that didn't work, but I managed to resolve the issue. I pressed the '?' button and then selected an option to proceed without web services. This got me back out to the main menu and I was able to reset the network settings as per your original response.

Many thanks for your help.
