- Problem with HP Envy 5530 printing greeting cards on Avery 3...

Print problems include: paper will often jam, Avery 33378 is a heavier paper, or will only print black vertical lines on top of page. Would appreciate advice on how to print greeting cards, or is the HP Envy 5530 not designed for printing greeting cards on this brand of Avery paper?
Thanks,
Gary

What can the printer do?
Specifications > Paper Handling > Paper tray capacities
Cards | Up to 200 g/m² (110 lb index) | Up to 40 cards |
The "card paper" weight as viewed in the Specification appears to be within the weight class allowed in the printer, though there might be a difference between "card stock" paper and "Index" paper in that paper types (Cover, Bond, Index, Text) are manufactured to different ISO standards. What does that mean? Paper is not "just paper" - there are different kinds of paper that are manufactured from different kinds of "paper stock".
Supported Cards (sizes)
Card type | Card size |
3 x 5 in Index | 76.2 x 127 mm (3 x 5 in) |
4 x 6 in Index | 101.6 x 152 mm (4 x 6 in) |
5 x 8 in Index | 127 x 203.2 mm (5 x 8 in) |
Custom Form
The printer supports creating Custom Paper Size forms
HP Document:
HP Printers - Creating Custom Paper Sizes
- Availability depends on printer model and software and Operating System / Version.
- If the feature is at least partially supported the Custom Setup will be available in Devices and Printers OR in Printer Preferences.
- If the feature is fully supported, the custom form can be created AND then used with the printer software.
- Devices and Printers > Print Server Properties
OR
- Printer Preferences > Print Dialog > Paper / Quality > Custom setting box
Paper Surface
Avery Textured Half-Fold Greeting Cards,White, 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", 30/Pack (33378)
- Textured White Cardstock, 65lb
The "textured" surface might be causing problems - the printer is not designed to support "textured" paper.
I would guess that the printer does not like the "textured" surface of the card paper.
What to do? Suggestions
- If necessary, create a Custom Paper Size form.
- IF your printer settings provide Media type "Brochure matte", try setting to that paper type to create the custom form and as the Media (kind of paper) setting in the Printer Properties.
- Stack no fewer than five cards in the tray - and not more than about ten sheets of the card paper.
Will it work?
Maybe - All other things "equal", the surface on the paper may be causing the printer sensor to reject the paper (fail to print, outright fail, get stuck).
Comments
If the printer supports Brochure matte paper, you could try using that to create your own cards. HP Brochure matte is typically 180 gsm (at least as sold in the USA). If the printer supports the Media, this paper is heavy enough to produce a satisfactory result. Not as nice as "textured" card paper, but perhaps adequate.
