Printer keeps displaying error code; Problem with printhead. The print head is fixed and not removable. Is it fixable? Or do I just go and buy a new printer? HP Officejet 6950.

@Stewman13, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Problem with printhead" error on your HP OfficeJet 6950 usually means there's a hardware issue with the printhead, even though it’s fixed (non-removable). Let’s go through your options:

🔧 Try These Fixes First (If Not Already Done):

Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer while it’s ON.
  2. Unplug the power cord from both the wall and printer.
  3. Wait for at least 1-2 minutes.
  4. Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door and remove all cartridges.
  • Check for ink buildup, leaks, or any kind of damage.
  • Reinstall the cartridges carefully.

Clean the Printhead (Manually)

Since the printhead is not user-removable, do this:

  • With the printer off, open the access door.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Gently wipe around the copper contacts where the cartridges connect.
  • Let it dry and close everything back up.

Update Firmware (if accessible)

Sometimes, firmware updates can address false error triggers. If you can still get into the settings, check for updates.

If Nothing Works

Unfortunately, if the error persists after reset and cleaning, and the printhead is truly defective then you will have to visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support
(Select the country from the dropdown menu and enter the city name or pincode)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
