Hello,
I just purchased an HP laser jet pro M255dw 20 days ago. During the first days I did not experience any serious issues with the printer. I had printed a couple of pdf files ( more than 30 pages each) , and everything was ok. These past 10 days I have been trying to print a whole pdf file and I just can’t. First of all, the printer takes a long time from the moment I press print till the moment it actually starts printing. Once it starts printing , it prints like 2-3 pages , there’s a small pause , then again 2-3 pages, a pause and this repeats maybe one or two more times. After that (most of the times a message appears on my pc screen saying there’s an error with printing etc) it is unable to continue printing the file and just returns back to the first page to print it again. I tried using a word file to, it actually prints the whole word file, again with smal gaps of time in between pages, but it prints it one more time, again! What can I do to fix these problems?? ( I use WiFi for connection )

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing several issues with your HP LaserJet Pro M255dw printer, particularly when trying to print PDF files. The issues you're describing—such as pauses between pages, printing only part of a PDF, and repeated printing of pages—can be caused by a few different factors. I'll walk you through some troubleshooting steps that can help resolve these problems.
Steps to Resolve Printing Issues with HP LaserJet Pro M255dw
1. Check the Printer and Connection
Before diving into deeper troubleshooting, let's make sure that your printer is properly connected and working smoothly.
- Check Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network. If the Wi-Fi signal is weak, it could cause delays and printing errors.
- Try printing a simple document from your phone or another device to check if the issue persists across different devices.
- If possible, try connecting your printer directly to your computer via USB to see if the issue is related to the Wi-Fi connection.
- Reboot the Printer and Router:
- Turn off the printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
- Restart your router as well, especially if you notice other devices experiencing connectivity issues.
2. Update Printer Firmware
Outdated printer firmware can cause performance issues. You should make sure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date.
- Go to the HP support website and enter the model number of your printer (LaserJet Pro M255dw).
- Download and install the latest firmware updates for your printer, following the on-screen instructions.
3. Update Printer Drivers
An outdated or corrupted printer driver can lead to printing errors, especially with complex files like PDFs.
- On Windows:
- Go to Device Manager > Printers > Right-click your printer and select Update Driver.
- Alternatively, go to the HP support website and download the latest drivers for the LaserJet Pro M255dw.
- On Mac:
- Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer and click Options & Supplies > Driver tab.
- Make sure you're using the latest available driver, or uninstall and reinstall the printer driver to ensure it's correctly set up.
4. Adjust Print Settings
Try printing smaller files or making adjustments to the print settings to see if that resolves the issue.
- Reduce PDF File Size: Large PDFs, especially ones with high-resolution images or embedded fonts, can cause printing issues. Use a tool to reduce the file size (e.g., online PDF compressors) and try printing again.
- Change Print Quality: Lower the print quality in the print dialog to see if it resolves the issue. Sometimes, high-quality settings can cause long delays or printing errors.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
