Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have downloaded printer updates and have/had no printer problems printing to plain paper.  However, when I try to print a page of mailing labels I get "paper type or print is incorrect" error msg.  My printer is an HP 6500 E710n-z.

Looking for help trying to figure out what the problem might be.  Avery customer service attempted to help but none of their suggestions worked and advised me to contact HP.

Avery Template 8160 is a Letter Size (8.5x11 in) template.

The template, when downloaded and opened in Word shows (in Layout) both the paper size and the margins (custom).  Leave both settings "as is".

How to...

The following assumes the Full Feature Software is installed...

Load the label paper into the printer - print side down, top of label paper toward the back of the printer (away from you).

User Guide, Page 20

Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Panel

Open Printer Tray,

If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type

Close Tray

IF applicable for your printer:

On the printer control panel, Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK

NOTE:  If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down list, Select Custom

Create Labels

Download and open the Template in Office Word...

Create the labels...

Save your document...

When printing (from Word),

File > Print >

Check - Adjust Printer name if necessary,

Click Printer Properties

tab Printing Shortcuts

Select a "General Everyday Printing" or similar shortcut (anything that is for general document printing)

Borderless (if available) = Off

Paper Type = Labels, Brochure Matte, "something" that is equivalent to "thick paper;", even "Other specialty paper" might work...

Source = Tray 1 (or main tray or similar)

Print on both sides (duplex) = Off

Print Quality = Normal

If your print software supports it, after the changes are made, click "Save as" (or create custom shortcut - wording varies),

Enter a name for your new custom shortcut..

When ready, Click OK to save / exit the Printer Properties menu

Back in Word Print menu, Click Print
