After turning on my HP LaserJet MFP M140w printer after six months the yellow explanation light and wifi light are blinking. I've tried rebooting and resetting everything without success. Including router, computer, wifi, printer, removing printer entry from computer and downloading new HP Smart app. A report printed that says ink is 'normal' and obviously no paper jam since report and copies work fine. What now?

Hi @VVincentV
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP printer blining lights, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
Here are some steps that might help:
1. Check the Error Code (if visible)
- Flashing Lights: On many HP printers, a flashing yellow or amber light (exclamation mark) typically indicates an error or a warning. Sometimes the flashing light will correspond to a specific error code or status message.
- Check for Error in the HP Smart App: You can open the HP Smart app and see if it provides any specific error codes or details about the issue.
2. Check the Wi-Fi Connection
- On the Printer: On your printer's control panel, press the Wi-Fi button (or go into the Wi-Fi settings menu) to reset the wireless settings.
- Re-enter Wi-Fi Information: Use the printer’s display screen or buttons to reconfigure the Wi-Fi network connection. You may need to select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password again.
- Using the HP Smart App: You can also use the HP Smart app to help reconnect the printer to your network. Open the app and follow the instructions to reconfigure wireless setup.
3. Perform a Network Reset on the Printer
- Network Reset Procedure:
- With the printer powered on, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds.
- The printer’s lights should blink and reset, and then it should return to a ready state.
- Once the network settings are reset, you will need to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network (see step above).
4. Check the Ink or Toner Cartridge
- Remove and Reinstall the Cartridge: Remove the ink/toner cartridge and reinsert it to ensure it’s seated properly. Even if the ink is "normal," a cartridge could still have a minor issue or be misaligned.
5. Clear the Printer’s Memory (Reset Printer Settings)
- Factory Reset Procedure:
- Press the Setup button on the printer’s control panel (this may look like a gear icon).
- Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Restore Defaults.
- Select Restore Network Defaults or Restore All Defaults.
- After resetting, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
6. Check for Firmware Updates
- Manually Update Firmware: Click here
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi,
I have tried all of the solutions listed that I can.
This printer does not have an control window. And since it's not on the wifi HP Smart doesn't see it.
The only thing displayed in the window is a flashing 'HP' when starting which later turns into a 01 with copy icon in lower left corner.
I've also removed and inserted the ink cartridge even trying a new cartridge. Copy function works fine.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Vance

None of the solutions you've listed help. Please escalate this to the next tier.
Thanks,

Computer: HP All-in-one Desktop 24-cb0xx. AMD chip running windows 11.
Printer: HP LaserJet MFP M140w, pictured below. About 18 months old.
To start with, it was hit and miss to attach to wifi.
Yellow explanation light has blinked the whole time.
Trouble shooting when wifi was corrected said there was a problem with the queue, but the queue was empty.
Now the printer will not connect to the wifi. Wifi hub is about 2 feet from printer.
Here are the steps I've performed. Most several times.
Replaced ink cartridge with new HP cartridge.
Copy function works fine.
Reset wifi, hold down x and wifi buttons simultaneously.
Reset printer to factory: while on unplug from the wall, wait 30 seconds and plug back in to wall (not surge protector)
Swapped computer between two wifis
Completely removed printer from computer.
Downloaded new copy of HP Smart. HP Smart still lists the printer but cannot see it since it's not on the wifi.
