A few days, I started noticing issues with my printer.
I would see a "looking for printer" error in the print queue after starting a job. When I looked at the printer, it was on, but there was nothing visible on the touch screen. Pressing it didn't wake it up.
If I turn the printer off and turn it on again it works—for a while. But then the same problem occurs.
I've also noticed that the printer is making a lot more noise throughout the day. Sometimes it sounds as if it's about to start printing (even when no one has sent a print job). I recall this happening occasionally in the past, but it's come to the point where it's disruptive. I might be on a call in my office and it is just making a lot of noise.
I have no idea if these problems are related but I'd be grateful for any help I can get. Thanks.

Download and install the current firmware from HP. After firmware update, disconnect printer from network or USB connection. Go to Setup/Maintenance/Restore/Restore factory settings and reset printer. Power off for ten minutes. Power back on. leave printer disconnected from USB or network. Monitor printer for normal operations for 30 minutes. If all goes well, reconnect printer back to network or USB.

Looks like I spoke too soon in terms of this being resolved. I've tried to download the firmware for this printer from the HP site for my Mac. After I mount the disk image and click on the firmware updater to install, I get this error message:
I've tried downloading with 3 separate browsers (Chrome, Safari, Brave) with the same result.
What now?

Unfortunately, I have never run into this error message. Check your printer's update settings:

If firmware option fails, Proceed with the reset steps. See how it goes.
