Product: HP Photosmart 8250 Q3470A
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hello community, who can help with this older device?

Device shows the following error:"Error in the ink system,The ink system has failed and can no longer print.see printer documentation error 0xc18a0401,Printer off and on again"

All attempts such as device on/off, unplugging, etc. or pressing 2 buttons at the same time on the display, 12345 appears without success, even after several attempts.

Probably, as mentioned in various forums, a firmware "download Firmwareenable_Release.exe" could still help, but I can't find this firmware anymore.

So does anyone have a hint or the firmware for this problem ??

By the way, original printer cartridges are included in this device.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Mani2761,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0xc18a0401 on your HP Photosmart 8250 typically indicates a problem with the printer’s ink system. This error often occurs due to issues with the ink cartridges, the printhead, or the internal ink system components. Since you’ve already tried basic troubleshooting steps, here’s a more detailed approach to resolving the issue:

**1. Perform Basic Troubleshooting

Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Remove and Reinstall Cartridges: Turn off the printer, open the cartridge access door, and carefully remove the ink cartridges. Reinstall them, ensuring they click into place.
  • Inspect Cartridges: Check for any signs of damage or leakage. Make sure the cartridges are the correct type for your printer.

Clean the Printhead:

  • Manually Clean: Open the printer and remove the printhead if it’s removable. Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the printhead contacts and the area where it sits.
  • Automatic Cleaning: If your printer has an automatic cleaning function (accessible through the printer's menu or the HP software on your computer), run a cleaning cycle.

Reset the Printer:

  • Hard Reset: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Reset to Factory Defaults: If available, perform a factory reset via the printer’s menu. This option is sometimes found in the setup or maintenance section of the menu.

**2. Check for Firmware Updates

  1. Firmware Update:
    • Visit HP Support: Go to the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for the HP Photosmart 8250.
    • Manual Firmware Update: If a specific firmware update like Firmwareenable_Release.exe is mentioned in forums but is not available online, it may be outdated or discontinued. Focus on any available firmware updates for the Photosmart 8250.

**3. Ink System Error Troubleshooting

Inspect the Ink System:

  • Look for Obstructions: Check for any paper or debris inside the printer that might obstruct the ink system.

Check the Ink System Components:

  • Examine the Ink Carriage: Ensure that the ink carriage moves freely and that there are no obstructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
