Hi @Tim1833,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If the question mark indicator on your HP Smart Tank 651 printer's operation panel persists despite following the suggested resolutions, it might be helpful to perform a few additional checks and steps:

1. Perform a Printhead Alignment

Even if you’ve done this before, try again:

  • On the printer panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead
  • Follow the on-screen instructions

2. Check for Firmware Updates

Outdated firmware can cause persistent UI glitches: 👉 HP Smart Tank Plus 650 Wireless All-in-One series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

Use HP Smart or HP Easy Start to install updates.

3. Restart and Reset

Try a hard reset:

  1. Turn off the printer
  2. Unplug it from power for 5 minutes
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on

If that doesn’t help, try a factory reset:

  • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults

⚠️ This will remove Wi-Fi settings and custom preferences, so be prepared to reconnect the printer afterwards.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Vikram  Hello

Thanks for the reply on my HP 651, I have tried to follow  the exact fix solutions you prescribed, still the ? remains, but the printer works  flawlessly.  Did  note that under the  scan button  I have  two dashes, the left one appears to be  darker  than the other one. I queried the internet somewhat,  but was going to take that up again. Hope  the dashes  will help  the effort.

Vikram again  Thanks for the support.
