HP Laserjet Pro M404n
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I run my Laserjet Pro in quiet mode.  Today, when I print, the printer starts in loud mode for a second or so, then hushes down to quiet mode.  Firmware and driver are current.  I did install Windows 10 version 2004 a week or so ago, but this quiet mode problem just started today.  Could they be related?.  I did a factory reset and then turned quiet mode back on,  Didn't help.

Any ideas?

Hello,

Overtime the drive gears on the Fuser Assembly will build up dirt in the grease and cause loud rubbing noise. You can clean the gears off with a toothbrush or something similar.

Hope this helps,

Thanks

Hi Caine,

Everything inside is clean as a whistle.  In fact, I replaced the toner cartridge a month or so ago.

It's not a rubbing noise, it's definitely the "revving up" sound of a  print with quiet mode off.

Thanks for the reply,

Tom

What is the actual firmware revision you have installed? I am wondering if they found bonding issues running quiet mode so they changed programming so that it will start up in normal mode to ensure fuser is hot enough to bond?

Firmware is listed as MOGAMIXXXN002.2014A.00 on the EWS page.  I don't know how to tell when that version was installed.  If I wanted to try and troubleshoot, is there a way to go back to the previous firmware version?  And is that advisable to try?
