I have Office Jet Pro 6968 and I am seeing the same problem for long. I started to see it right after I purchased it. Last year I contacted a customer support, and non of their advises worked, except for one thing. A support suggested me to move the printer head by hand. The head moved easily, and it worked!
After then, I almost don't see the problem, but does not disappear perfectly.
I used a timer to shut down every night. I changed the configuration to shut down in a couple of hour. It made the printer more stable and I have not seen the problem nearly one year since then ... until today.
Today I met the same problem. I searched this forum and found this article. After battling with my printer for hours, I finally remember that the printer head could be related. However the head does not move by hand this time. I repeatedly turned on and off the printer, opened and closed the lid, but it never be moved. Therefore I am currently not able to clear the error yet.
I think HP does not know the error is related with the printer head, and they don't improve the head for years. I hope this post helps R&D people in HP and improve the head not to stack so easily, and the error message should imply the possibility of jamming head. It currently said it is paper jam.

@Hayashida, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Apologies for the inconvenience caused. Any 0x errors on the printer indicate a hardware issue with the printer.
If the Print carriage is jammed, let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Reset the printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
Also, perform steps 1, 2 and 3 mentioned in this document. If the Print carriage is able to move on its own, the issue is resolved and you may stop troubleshooting.
For more info on 0x errors on the printer, refer to this document.
Let me know how this goes.

Than you, Kumar. However, it is late. I have purchased Epson yesterday as I have to print out something as soon as possible.
The procedure you showed me is something what I did for 100 times.
The HP printer apparently has a problem in the head that can stack, with an cryptic error message. Support agents are not trained to mention the possibility of the problem in the head mechanism. Please do not blame to the power cord. It does not matter if it is wall outlet or power strip. I am pretty sure the mechanism to move the head has some design errors, and this issue persists for years.
I may purchase HP printer again only if I see a commitment to fix the problem in HP site, newsletter or this forum.

That's unfortunate. When the printer is connected to a surge protector, it may not receive enough power to operate. Hence, HP recommends connecting the printer directly to the wall outlet. If the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:
1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/
2) Select your product type below.
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.
6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.
