@ brianzebra I'm dealing with the exact same issue.  I'm certain there is an issue with the new hp cartridges I've purchased from Walmart.  The printer recognizes the old cartridge but not the new one. I've mirrored your steps thus far and was about to explore inserting ink into the old cartridge.  Thanks for the heads up.  I will be pissed if I have to purchase a new printer because it no longer recognizes the hp authentic print cartridges. 

 

HP fix this before someone files a class action law suit or seeks some other legal remedy. Your cartridges are no longer working for this printer model. 😞

If you recently purchased the cartridges and they aren’t working, you can contact the point of purchase — in this case, Walmart — for a replacement.
