How do I remove the paper tray so that I can repair the gear inside the paper feed mechanism?  The printer is not detecting or taking paper.

Presumably you mean the top tray that the paper ejects from? If so, the top tray will pivot up and down. I raise it up a bit and wiggle it to my right. The tray will pop out.
