My roommate's step dad bought her (us) an HP OfficeJet 5255 Printer and we've been trying to connect our lap tops to the printer for months and it won't recognize anything. I connected to the same wifi network as the printer and tried finding it, I even printed the three pages of Printing Info but nothing works. I read a few questions and answers about the WPS code but it typically involves a router and ... we don't have the router. We can't even connect the printer to anything. Actually, it has been really difficult even finding the exact printer anywhere. All I see are HP OfficeJet 8000s and 9000s. It's just getting to be a hassle and we've been wanting to print some pictures to hang on our wall.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to HP support community.
Perform a power reset
- Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 30 seconds.
- Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
- Turn on the printer.
Restore the printer to the original network settings
1. From the Home screen, touch (Wireless) and then touch ( Settings ).
2. Touch Restore Network Settings, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
3. Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.
Update the printer firmware
Refer the steps mentioned in this HP document for firmware update:- Click here
If you do not have a router to connect, connect the computer using WiFi direct:

I hope that helps.
