I've tried all of these "fixes" and nothing works.  I still have the "Attention Required" message.

I've run HP Print and Scan Doctor which supposibly "fixed" an issue with the printing que, but it still did not print the test page and the que still showed the "Attention Required" message.  Windows 10 notification says "User intervention needed."  Clicked on "No print" which sent a test page to the printer to test its "functionality" which printed just fine.

I've had this printer for 2 years with no problems to complain about.  Prints fine with my mobil devices.

I've unintstalled ALL the files related to this printer as well as any "left behind files" from my previous HP printer.  Current printer is a HP Envy 5660 (networked).

I've stopped the print spooler, cleared the windows file with the qued files, turned the print spooler back on.  Still no joy.

Went through the steps for manually setting up the IP address as listed here in your post.

Turned off printer in the appropriate places in the steps listed above (an  important step not to skip.)

Pounded the mouse on the table several times... no joy except that it felt good to pound on something.

Everything checks out as "working fine," except that it doesn't print.  ;-(

Any suggestions?

Hello, @HEWI – Greetings!

Thanks for reaching out! I’m here to help 🙂

I see that you are facing issues while printing with your Envy printer. What application are you using to print? Is it MS Word / Excel? If yes, try to print from a different application and check.

Also, try to open the application as an administrator and check. Right-click on the file and choose “Run as administrator” to open as administrator. Let me know if that works.

Alternatively, try to perform the steps below to perform a clean install:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer, if present.
  • Go to Control Panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control Panel – Devices and Printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now, click http://hp.care/2oNpJQq to download and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
  • Restart the PC and check.

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck 🙂

I had already done a "clean" uninstall and reinstalled.  I've spent a couple hours on this without fixing this problem.  I gave up and finally pluged in the usb cable.  It works like a charm... finally!  🙂  I had to rearrange my work area but at least it works.

Thanks for the attempt to help, it was appreciated.

Hope this works for you because it worked several times in our household for all computers.  Incidentally, we never had any problem printing from the app on our phones, just the laptops.  It was probably an update that was made in Windows 10 that HP did not keep up with.  Our printer was working for years without any major issues until this happened.

I think this solution works for other HP printers with this error message because I found this in a forum for a completely different kind of HP printer.

Do the following:

1. From the Windows setting go into the Devices

2. Select Printers & Scanners

3. Click on your printer with the left mouse and click on the Manage button when it comes up as an option

4. Select the Printer Properties option

5. Click on the Ports tab

6. Click on Add Port

7. Select Standard TCP/IP Port

8. Click New Port, then follow the Next prompt

9. Get the IP address from your printer and enter it into the prompt, then the Port Name will fill in automatically also (the IP address is quite often 192.168.X.X, where you need to fill in the X with the number it provides you on the printer)

 10. Printer should be working properly now.

Thank you that worked. I've been playing with this for a week.

Like you said, it probably was a windows issue. I HATE WINDOWS!
