HI @EMR20,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Error code E6 on your HP Envy 6400e printer typically indicates a hardware issue related to the carriage or printhead. Here’s how you can further troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Steps to Resolve Error Code E6 on HP Envy 6400e

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes, then plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer and clear temporary errors.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Ensure that there are no paper jams or foreign objects remaining inside the printer, especially around the carriage area or printhead.
  • Open the printer's front and rear access doors carefully and inspect for any debris or obstructions.

Inspect Carriage Movement:

  • Manually move the carriage back and forth to check for any obstructions or restrictions in its movement. The carriage should move freely from one side of the printer to the other.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a semi-full reset on your HP Envy 6400e printer. Here’s how:
    • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
    • Wait at least 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
    • Turn the printer back on.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for and install any available firmware updates for your HP Envy 6400e printer. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues and improve printer performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
