Recently my printer started printing a red line down the left margin of the paper. It only does this when auto-duplexing.

I replaced the Magenta toner cartridge and I'm still having the issue.

There is a red band on the foam rubber roller right where the red steak appears.

Is there something that needs to be cleaned?

Model would be helpful. If the previous cartridge was leaking then it might take some pages to clean the spilled toner out. There could also be excess toner somewhere else in the printer. You can try wiping the roller with a dry, lint free cloth, wiping towards the edge of the roller.

I appreciate your help in this.

It's a M431dn, and it's almost 12 years old.

Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. Is there a way to vacuum it out?

Vacuums for toner have ultra fine filters to prevent particles from being ejected into the air. If you can see toner inside the printer that would be the best, but make sure you are protected from airborne particles.
