HP Deskjet 4535
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hi, I recently moved from India to the Uk and brought over my HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4535 printer. I had an unopened color cartridge from india (HP 680). I had to buy a black cartridge here in the UK (HP 652), but the printer is not recognizing the cartridge.

How do i reset the region settings for the cartridge to be accepted?

Can i have one of each for now or do i need to buy the color cartridge also locally before doing the reset?

You could use up the color cartridge by removing the black cartridge and operating the printer in single cartridge mode as described in page 33 of the user manual here.

Once the cartridge is used you will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.

Note that the regionalization reset may require a connection to a computer with the full featured driver installed.

I have seen some reports of folks having success  with regionalization resets through the HP Support Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/HPSupport/

I meant to mention - if you want to store the black cartridge after removing it from the printer see the document here.
