I created a New Self-Signed Certificate, double-checked the date, and restarted the printer and MacBook Air, but it still says expired certificate.  I can print from my iPhone and iPad but not from the MacBook.  What am I missing???

Hi @pafrye,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

When printing from macOS or iOS devices and encountering the Encryption Credentials Expired error message, this typically indicates that the Embedded Web Server (EWS) certificate on the printer has expired. Despite creating a new self-signed certificate and restarting the devices, if this issue persists, consider the steps below:

Generate a New Self-Signed Certificate from EWS:

  • Open EWS from a Windows computer (macOS does not have this option).
  • Navigate to the printer's IP address using the desktop view of EWS (the mobile view does not support certificate management).
  • Go to the Network tab, click on Advanced Settings, then click Certificates.
  • Select Create a New Self-Signed Certificate, and follow the prompts to complete the creation.

Check the MacOS Trust Settings:

  • Open the Keychain Access application on your MacBook Air.
  • In the Certificates category, locate the self-signed certificate from your printer.
  • Double-click the certificate and expand the Trust settings.
  • Ensure it is set to always trust the certificate for SSL.

Verify Printer Software Updates:

Reset Printing System on macOS:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click on the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
  • Add your printer again using the updated settings.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the expired certificate error and print from your MacBook Air.

I hope this helps.
