The Officejet Pro 8700 series printers may be a good replacement for your Officejet Pro 8500 Plus.

There are four 8700 models at this time: 8710, 8720, 8730, and 8740. Each one in turn adds a couple extra bells and whistles. All were on sale in early December 2018, except the 8720, which has the best reviews. I went with the 8740 to get the extra load tray. Beware of jams. I will only use HP's recommended paper for a while to preclude that as a claimed jam excuse. The enclosed CD is not clearly labeled, but has four necessary drivers in addition to the on-line Setup Procedure download.

The Officejet Pro 8740 is a nice choice. I had one of these last year on loan from HP as a perk of the HP Experts program. This year I am using an Officejet Pro 8720. In addition to the extra tray the 8740 also does two-sided scanning faster than the 8720 or 8710 - it scans both sides of the paper in one pass, eliminating the need to have the ADF pull the paper back in to scan the back side.
Edit - BTW, I never had any jam issues with either the 8740 or the 8720. I mostly use plain office paper, 20 or 24 lb. I just checked the EWS report, for the 8720 I have printed a bit over 400 pages with no miss-picks and no jams. Typically I have a few miss-picks per year, they happen when the tray runs out of paper if I forget to keep it stocked.
