Deskjet 1513
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a Deskjet 1513 in the US but I am using it in Costa Rica.  I needed a new ink cartridge and looked for HP 61 which is specified.  However, the Latin American "equivalent" is HP 122.  HP 61 is not available here. 

 

So I bought the HP 122 but now am getting error message of "Incompatible ink cartridges."  How can I work around this?

You will need to contact HP Support to "reset the region" for your printer.

 

Please ensure that you have the full set of inks for the new region.

 

HP Support will walk you through a series of steps to reset your printer.

Thank you very much for you excellent explanation.

 

1.  I am living in Costa Rica and calling HP support on the phone, anticipating a long wait to get answered, could turn out to be quite expensive. 

 

2.  Because my printer is out of warranty, there could be a charge for this information.

 

3.  In looking up your solution elsewhere, it says I have to print a test page -- right now, I can't print ANYTHING so that is out.

 

4.  Any other ideas?

 

5.  What would happen if I delete all the HP stuff from my computer and try to re-install it like it's new?  Could I specify the region at that time?

 

I am part of a committee that is raising funds for the victims in Costa Rica of Hurrican Otto.  In my little village, there were 5 deaths and about 35 families made homeless.   So having the use of this printer is quite important to me and to getting the whole process finished. 

 

If there is no way to get this done, I will just swallow the $50 I have spent on printer ink and buy another printer.  I don't have any choice at this point because it has to be working no later than tomorrow. 

 

Thanks again for your help and any further advice you can give me.  I really am in a bind.

OK - no longer in a bind!

 

Because I couldn't wait for a solution or to try to deal with HP due to the circumstances, I went out and bought another printer. 

 

You can be sure that it was NOT an HP!  🙂  In fact, I'd really like to meet the person who designed this particular part of the business:  You have to buy a special ink cartridge, depending on where you live, and if you move from one region to another, nothing works anymore.

 

Still... it was a good effort on your part so thanks for that.

Hi @HariCR,

Glad to hear that your issue is resolved and all is working well now. (though it meant buying a different printer)

 

There are printers that are non-regionized.  The HP Officejet 200/250 Mobile/Mobile All-in-One printers is one example.  It accepts inks from other regions even though it may be of different numbers.
