In October, an automatic update was sent to my printer (HP LaserJet, M280 M281 series). But it failed and since then I have been completely unable to use the printer because a “resend upgrade“ error message has been displayed. I have been unable to clear the error message, despite many attempts and different tries so that I can update the latest firmware. How can I clear the error message so the printer is in a ready state for update?  I’m very frustrated that HP has remotely disabled my expensive printer.

There are several posts on this forum that cover several fixes for the "send upgrade" error. If your device shows an unclearable 49 error then there is a service program in place to either fix or replace your printer. You should open a case at support.hp.com

I do not have that error and HP will not let me open a case. They’ve bricked my printer

Do you have any suggestions on how I can get HP to allow me to open a case? Is there a particular phone number I need to call or an email I can send? I even contacted a local HP repair person and they can’t clear the error. I don’t know how to get HP to address this issue, which as you say, is not a one-off issue. Lots of people have this problem.
