I set a password for the ews of my HP Officejet Pro 7740 Wide Format printer and when I tried to connect using it the printer said it was wrong. So I tried to reset it. I tried to reset Network settings and do a semi-full reset but nothing worked.
Thanks for your help.

Hi @kon4589,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to reset the Embedded Web Server (EWS) password on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer, you can try the following steps:
Method 1: Restore Factory Defaults
Access the Printer's Control Panel:
- On the printer’s touchscreen, go to the Home screen.
Navigate to Printer Maintenance:
- Tap on Setup (gear icon) > Printer Maintenance.
Restore Factory Settings:
- Scroll down and select Restore Factory Defaults.
- Confirm if prompted.
This should reset the printer to its factory settings, including the EWS password. Note that any network settings, such as Wi-Fi credentials, will also be erased, so you'll need to set them up again.
Method 2: Reset Network Settings
If a factory reset doesn’t work, you can also try resetting just the network settings:
Access the Printer's Control Panel:
- On the printer’s touchscreen, go to the Home screen.
Navigate to Network Settings:
- Tap on Setup (gear icon) > Network Setup.
Restore Network Defaults:
- Scroll down and select Restore Network Settings.
- Confirm if prompted.
This will reset the network settings, which might also reset the EWS password.
Method 3: Use the HP Smart App
If you have the HP Smart app installed on your device, you can use it to access the printer’s settings:
Open the HP Smart App:
- Ensure your printer is connected to the same network as your device.
Access Printer Settings:
- Select your printer, then navigate to Advanced Settings.
Reset EWS Password:
- You should be able to access and reset the EWS password from this menu.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
