I  finally got the printer to print but rec'd your reply in my email which I only saw later on. All the HP diagnostics and trouble shooting tools failed to resolve the problem. For the record and to help others with a similar problem here is what I found:

Items 1&2 and the diagnostic and troubleshooting aids were all performed earlier but would not resolve the probelm.

I decided to change the color cartridge as well since I only replaced the BW cartridge which ran bone dry but the color was half full. At the same time I decided to  reinitiate my wireless connection to my printer which also stopped working and could not connect to the printer whatever I tried. But the reset on the print to my wireless system would not work.  I have not had any probelms with several PC I run with wireless connectivity but decided as a deul router I might be having problems with the 2.4Ghz band in my duel band router/wireless device.

After rebooting the router, I  was able to print using a USB cable, but I have not yet reset the wireless address on my printer for fear of not being able to print at all again.  Right now my wireless communications from my PCs to the printer is not working: it cannot find the wireless port that was set up originally.  I proabably have to delete and reinstall that port.

I am very busy now and cannot risk another printer failure so have postponed resetting the wireless port if that is what the problems is.  I simply cannot take the chance of lossing my printing capabilitites. Fearing another total printer outage, I have posponed getting my HP wireless printing to work.

I am surprised that the HP diagnostic and trouble shooting software will not see that there is no 2.4GHz signal or that the that port is not being recognized by my printer, especially since my HP smart program on my PC can communicate with my printer. Maybe that connection is via the direct connect mode noted on some of the documentation?????  It is pity that HP doesnot offer a variety of preset configurations modes to set up a printer under various connection configurations. Instead they offer every conciveable option and leave it up to the user to figure out !!!!
