My printer recently would not print from my phone so I made contact through what I thought was an HP chat expert. I was immediately connected to someone who asked me several questions about my problem. He told me my computer had been hacked. After a lengthy phone conversation, including descriptions of security software, I was connected to a technician via phone who did indeed fix my problem (and he was very helpful). After the printer problem was fixed I decided to buy a protection plan. I was asked to scan a copy of my check for the plan and the work done to fix the computer. The contact said I then had to send the actual check to a particular address after which I became suspicious and checked the mailing address. It ends up being a house! I am concerned this is a scam and question whether or not I should cancel my check. Now I am worried they may still have control of my computer and all that entails.
