I replaced my router (old:Cisco, new:Airport Extreme) and had to change from the C7280 being on the wireless net itself to being plugged into the Airport Extreme router via USB.
I had a lot of trouble adding the print queue for the C7280 to my Print & Scan options: HP doesn't offer driver downloads for this and Apple was saying there was no software available for this. I eventually got the thing added and printing works just fine.
There is, however, now no scan option available for the C7280. None at all, not in Preview, not in the print queue. Nowhere.
I need to be able to scan directly from my computer. How do I get that functionality back? How can I reliably add and configure this all-in-one under these conditions?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
The USB port of Airport Extreme provide print sharing only, it does not provide any scan capabilites:
http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/features/printing.html
In order to get full functionality, make sure to connect the device by USB directly to the Mac or by using Ethernet or Wireless connection to the Airport Extreme.
Next, enter System Preferences > Print & Scan.
Remove the existing print queue and click the Plus sign to add the printer, it will appear as USB or Bonjour for network connection.
Make sure to install the latest HP Update by clicking the Apple Icon and then Software Update.
Please let me know of any issue,

Schlomi!
Thanks for the info! Wow! Everything seems to be working perfectly now. The C7280 is connected wirelessly and the scanner controls are back!
I had tried signing the C7280 into my WiFi network when I set it up for the first time a couple of days ago, but couldn't get it connected. Something in the Airport Extreme documentation made me think I'd have to go USB, so I gave up on that route.
You've made my day. Thanks again.

You are gladly welcome.
Great to know you were able to solve the problem and can use any of the printer functionality.

i have removed my printer, and reinstalled but my c7280 still does not appear as a scanner. I am connected using IP. I have macBook Pro with OS X 10.11.6
Only option I see for install is c7200 series. nothing listed for c7280. How do I get my printer installed as a scanner too?
