@cedleg, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Let's get your Scan to Email feature working again with smtp.free.fr on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw.

Step-by-Step Setup via HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Access the Printer's Web Interface (EWS):

  • Ensure the printer is connected to your network.
  • Open a browser and enter the printer’s IP address (found on the printer’s control panel under Network Settings).

Enable Scan to Email:

  • Go to the System tab → Administration.
  • Ensure Scan to Email is set to On.

Configure Outgoing Email Profile:

  • Go to the Scan tab → Outgoing Email Profiles.
  • Click New or Edit your existing profile.

SMTP Settings for smtp.free.fr:

  • SMTP Server:smtp.free.fr
  • Port:587 (or try 465 if SSL is required)
  • Authentication: Enabled
  • Username: Your full Free.fr email address
  • Password: Your Free.fr email password
  • SSL/TLS: Enabled (try both if unsure)

Sender Email Address:

  • Use the same Free.fr email address as the sender.

Save and Test:

  • After entering the details, click Save and Test to verify the connection.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If the test fails, double-check:
    • Email and password are correct.
    • SMTP port and SSL settings match Free.fr requirements.
    • Your Free.fr account allows SMTP access (some providers require enabling this in account settings).
  • Try disabling 2-Step Verification if enabled on your Free.fr account.
  • Restart the printer after saving settings.

@cedleg, Thanks for sharing the screenshots, they’re very helpful. Based on the images, here's what's going wrong:

Issue Identified: SMTP Blocking by Free.fr

The second screenshot clearly shows a message from Free.fr stating:

"Blocage SMTP sortant" — Outgoing SMTP blocking is enabled.

This means Free.fr is currently blocking outgoing SMTP connections, which prevents your printer from sending emails via smtp.free.fr.

Solution: Disable SMTP Blocking

To resolve this:

  1. Log in to your Free.fr account via https://subscribe.free.fr/login.
  2. Navigate to Email settings.
  3. Look for the option labeled "Blocage du SMTP sortant".
  4. Disable this setting by clicking the red button that says "Activer le blocage du SMTP sortant" — this will turn it off.

Once disabled, retry the "Save and Test" in the printer's EWS (Embedded Web Server) interface.

Additional Tips

  • Make sure the email address and password entered in the SMTP profile are correct.
  • Ensure SSL/TLS is enabled and port 587 is used (or try 465 with SSL if 587 fails).
  • Restart the printer after making changes.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have a great day.
