Hi @Steven642,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw scanner is still locked after performing a factory reset, there may be a few other steps to try before considering further troubleshooting or contacting support.
Power Cycle:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source for at least 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on to see if the issue persists.
Check for Error Messages:
- Look for any error codes or messages on the printer's display. If there's a specific error, it could point to a specific problem that might require a particular solution.
Scan Settings Check:
- On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the Scan settings and ensure there are no restrictions or issues preventing scanning.
- If possible, reset the scan settings from the menu.
Reinstall the Printer Software:
- Uninstall the existing printer software from your computer.
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and software for your model (MFP 178nw).
- Install the software again and check if the scanner works after the reinstallation.
Check for Firmware Update:
- Sometimes, a firmware update can resolve issues like a locked scanner. You can check for any available firmware updates via the printer’s control panel or through the HP software on your computer.
Network Configuration:
- Ensure the printer is correctly connected to your network, especially if you are trying to scan to a network folder or email. A poor or interrupted connection might cause issues with the scanner.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
