Sequoia 15.6.1 does not play well with older HP printers. My HP 8710 was working perfectly . I updated to Sequoia 15.6.1 and now HP 8710 won't print. My Mac recognises the printer. It's a software issue.  There are other members of the forum who have the same problem.

Steps I've Taken

1. Tried to update the printer driver.  HP no longer provides drivers for my model.

2. Updated printer software.

3. Tried printing via Wifi and hard wired.  Nothing.

4. Turned it on and off several times.

5. Searched for solutions.

Hello @Juniper98762389 ,

It seems like you're experiencing compatibility issues between your HP 8710 printer and the Sequoia 15.6.1 operating system on your Mac. Here are a few suggestions you could try to resolve the issue:

  1. Reset the Printing System: Sometimes resetting the entire printing system on your Mac can solve issues with recognizing printers.

    • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Right-click in the printer list on the left (or control-click if you don’t have a mouse).
    • Choose Reset printing system.
    • Re-add your printer to see if it resolves the issue.
  2. HP Print and Scan Doctor: This tool can diagnose and resolve printing issues. Although it's primarily for Windows users, it generally offers troubleshooting advice that might be helpful for identifying issues on other systems too.

  3. HP Smart App: Try using the HP Smart App, if available, which might help in setting up and managing your printer and can sometimes bypass driver issues.

  4. Ensure Firmware is Updated: Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve compatibility issues and improve the printer's performance.

  5. Check for Mac Software Updates: Ensure your Mac OS is updated to the latest version, as updates often include bug fixes that could resolve printer issues.

Unfortunately, without driver support from HP for the latest Mac OS, you may need to rely on generic printer drivers, which might have limited functionality. However, you can keep checking the HP support site or forums for any updates or patches that may arise from either HP or the community that might offer a solution in the future.

Thank you for such a thoughtful reply.  Unfortunately, I needed a working printer so had to buy a new one. I grumbled about that because my HP8710 was working fine.

Hello @Juniper98762389 ,

Totally get that it’s frustrating to replace a printer that was working fine. Sometimes firmware or part issues leave us with no choice. Hope the new one serves you well!  😊
