Also not finding the factory reset -- was able to reset defaults, but that made no difference

I've had this printer in service for 5 years with no problems.  Today, initiating a print job resulted in the first "79 Service Error".

I performed the HP recommended solution:  Turn off prntr, disconnect Ethernet, Turn off IPv6, etc.
This did not work, but the printer doesn't hang up now, it just reboots when I get the "79 Service Error" and returns to the ready state, without printing.
I tried the recommendation to "default the settings", and now I get "49 Service error" after the default reboot activity.

I've tried a few power cycles, but it just doesn't come up now.  It hangs up during the boot up after the initializing screen, then shows the "49 Service Error" and says to re-start the printer.

The following finally worked for me:

  1. Disconnect Ethernet from printer
  2. Make sure wi-fi is turned OFF in the settings menu
  3. Shut off and unplug printer, then wait at least 60 seconds
  4. Boot printer, select “Settings”, then select Network Setup and turn off IPv6 if not already off
  5. Reconnect Ethernet cable

Then on Windows (Windows 10):

  1. Remove ALL HP printer drivers
  2. Discover/reinstall the printer driver

I was then able to print

Thanks, but none of the postings here or on the web fixed this issue for me.

I tried factory default setting, and now I get "49 Service Error".  I can't get rid of that error.

.

Thanks for your assist.

Hello,

Try the below steps....

While the printer control panel is at HOME screen,

touch Setup ( gear icon ) > System Setup > Supply Settings > Cartridge Policy > Off

touch Cartridge Protection > Off

Press Home icon

Now try printing.

I probably wasn't clear.  I get the Service error when the printer starts up during boot-up.  I can never get to the functional menus on the screen.
I took my printer to a local repair shop.  They replaced the "Formatter" board.  It's working normally now.  $107 for the board, and $69 diagnostic fee.

Thanks for all the feed-back.

I ran into this problem after a software update.

This was the sequence that worked for me:
I removed the paper tray to stop the reboot loop as another poster mentioned.  Then restored defaults:
HOME->Setup->Service->Restore Defaults->OK

HP released new firmware September 2022 which resolved the issue for me. 79 Service Error is definitely firmware related.

I'm having this issue on my printer now, I don't see any solutions in this thread that are working. There's some mention of factory resets but this end up in DMs. I can print from the reports menu, but anything sent over the network, wired or wireless hits the 79 service error and sends it into the reboot loop. What's the answer on this everyone? Using HP cartridges btw.
