I need help with this as well please?!

The tech sent me a solution and it did not work.  My 73 year old father bought an Open Box HP online to save a few dollars and get a nice new printer, and now has to go through the hassle of sending it back and buying one somewhere else because there were no setup cartridges and the printer is useless.  I only hope he buys an Epson.  Honestly this requirement to have the setup cartridges is horse crap and it has pushed me away from HP.  I have been an HP person from the early days of the original DeskJet.  But this... this is downright evil.  What if you buy a used printer?  What if your printer breaks and has to be sent in for warranty repair and the unit is factory reset?  If you don't have those setup cartridges, you're out of luck.  Unfortunately, I'm probably the minority and HP won't care what I think.  But, I've got the ear of everyone around me as I'm the tech guy in the family and friend circles.  So I'll be recommending against HP from here on out.  You should be ashamed of yourself for making this so difficult.

I found the following instructions and it worked for me.  I have a 7855.

1)    On the control panel, touch the Home and Back buttons in this sequence:

a)    Home button once

b)    Back button twice

c)    Home button once

2)    Open the ink cartridge access door, and then close it. A Load Paper message displays on the control panel display, and the printer begins initializing.

3)    If the initialization does not begin, repeat steps a and b until the initialization begins.

4)    Follow the prompts on the control panel display to complete initialization.

Hi @Androidianeer,

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
