Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought this printer (for personal home use) 10  days ago, signed up for the Moderate Printing Plan for $4.99/month on instant Ink and I’ve already printed 460+ pages. Some months I print less than 100 pages, but between me & the rest of my family, we very well might print in excess of 300-400 pages in a given month. So I started the process of cancelling my Instant Ink acct, and I have about 10 more days before my ink tanks become non-usable, something I originally was not aware of. The main reason why I cancelled is because of privacy concerns (don’t want my printer being connected to something outside my home when I’m perfectly capable of controlling/maintaining my printer & ink usage), but I was VERY disappointed when I was told that I could only use HP brand ink in this printer (NO generic ink), not to mention that it’s a real pain to constantly have to log into yet ANOTHER HP website just to see how much I’ve printed or if I’ve exceeded my plan’s limit (why not design it so this can be done right from the printer itself?)!!

So my questions are as follows:

1.) Is it really true that store bought HP ink tanks are significantly smaller than the smart ink tanks from Instant Ink, like the HP rep said when I called to cancel my Instant ink plan?

2.) Is there another more economical plan that allows for more printing than 300-500 pages/month?

3.) I have about another week before it’s too late to return this printer to the place of purchase. Is there another all-in-one printer (any reputable brand) you can recommended to me, based on my needs as described above?

If the answer is yes to #1 and no to #2 and/or #3, then unfortunately I’ll be returning this printer to Best Buy and will have to start all over from scratch, in a search for the best printer for my needs. I never had to concern myself with these issues in any of the Canon printers  I’ve owned, so maybe I’ll go back to that brand.

Thanks in advance for your help!
