HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I have been having a problem with my printer and mac. I can print fine from my windows pc but when trying to print It can take from 10-20 minutes to start printing page 1 from the mac. Some times the print job take just a long to print one page.

The setting are installed correct and are working. Sometimes it will print fine but about 80% of the time it will have this problem of not wantting to print.

I have uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it but still the same problem.

Any ideas that can help?

I understand that your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One is printing slowly from the MAC

Are you facing this issue after an update?

How long are you facing this issue?

Check the print driver settings. Selecting certain paper types or printing in Best or Maximum DPI quality can slow print speeds. Print with plain paper in Normal or Draft quality for faster print speeds.

  1. On your Mac, open the photo or document you want to print.

  2. Open the photo or document you want to print, click File, and then click Print. For the Photos app, click the Print button at the bottom of the window.

    The print settings window opens.

  3. Make sure your printer is selected.

  4. If you do not see options on the Print dialog box, click Show Details.

  5. Click the unnamed menu at the center of the window, click Paper Type/Quality or Media & Quality, and then select Normal or Draft from the Quality or Print Quality menu or slider.

Try to print.

Update the printer firmware for printers connected to a Mac.

  1. Make sure the printer is on and connected to the computer, either through your local network or a USB cable.

  2. Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then enter your printer model number.

  3. Select your operating system if required.

  4. Click Firmware, and then click Download.

If a Firmware section is not listed, an update is not currently available for your printer.

  5. When the download is complete, open the [Printer_name].dmg file.

  6. Open the HP Firmware Updater.

  7. Click the name of your printer, and then click Continue.

Figure : Device Discovery window with printer selected

  8. The updater checks the firmware version currently installed on the printer, and displays the results in the Update Information window.

    • If Device is ready to be reflashed displays, click Continue to update the firmware.

When the update completes, click Done.

    • If This Firmware Updater does not contain upgrades for your device displays, the printer firmware is already updated to the most recent version. Click Cancel to exit the updater.

If the issue persists, Add the AirPrint printer to the Mac printer queue

Confirm you are using AirPrint by adding the printer in System Preferences.

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window

  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, go to the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

Have a great day!

Cheers:)

I have tried all of these options and the firmware is said to be upto date. Is there any others option to look into to find out what could be wrong. Could there be some program that can interfer with the signal going to the printer? We are still having problems with the printer even if it is connected with the usb cable.
