macOS 11.0 Big Sur

HP smart tank 6001 - ran through setup instructions from 123.hp, scanned print head alignment page, and was able to successfully print only 1 single document. Now the blue wifi light is flashing. Tried cycling the printer, and the router. HP diagnostics tool could not locate the printer. How is it I was able to set up and connect, print my first page, then 20 minutes later it shows "offline" status and nothing seems to bring it back.  brand new printer just out of the box.

Hi @TSpargo,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP Smart Tank 6001 on macOS Big Sur, where the printer initially worked but now shows as offline with a flashing blue Wi-Fi light. This typically indicates a loss of wireless connection.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve this:

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check Wi-Fi Connection
    • Ensure your printer and Mac are connected to the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (HP Smart Tank printers do not support 5 GHz).
    • If your router has dual band, try temporarily disabling the 5 GHz band.

  2. Reset Printer Network Settings
    • On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking rapidly. This resets the wireless settings.
    • Reconnect the printer using the HP Smart app.

  3. Re-add Printer in HP Smart App
    • Open the HP Smart app on your Mac.
    • Remove the existing printer if listed.
    • Click “+” to add a new printer and follow the on-screen steps.

  4. Use HP Smart Diagnose & Fix
    • HP Smart for macOS includes a Diagnose & Fix tool:
      • Open HP Smart > Click your printer > Click the “Diagnose & Fix” option from the menu.
      • Follow the prompts to resolve connectivity issues.

  5. Firewall or Router Settings
    • Some routers may block printer communication. Ensure your router’s firewall isn’t overly restrictive.
    • You may need to enable multicast or Bonjour in your router settings.
