I have a relatively new Smart Tank 7001 that was purchased in November of 2024. The printer occasionally puts a blob of ink on the edge of a printed page. First time was a large color picture and it left a big blob about half-way down the page on the edge. A few days ago, I printed four 2-sided copies of the same document and it left a small ink blob on the bottom corner of each page.
I first called a number for HP service. They were very responsive. That should have been a clue. It turned out to be a scammer and I realized it before I shared any info. I then went to the HP site and found that getting someone on the phone was close to impossible. So, I selected a chat. I explained the problem and the rep on the other end was obviously reading screen prompts because the questions being asked indicated that he had no understanding of my problem. I had to repeat the problem several times and all I got in return were comments like "Great, don't worry, we will work as a team" and a bunch of other foolishness unrelated to fixing my problem. After more time than I cared to spend repeating myself or re-explaining the problem, I gave up and ended the chat.
I then get an email with a case number as if my problem was being worked on. The next day I get another email telling me that the case has been closed.
I read reviews about the dismal customer support HP has lately. But I've always purchased HP products and had good luck, from office-based laser printers to laptops. I'm very disappointed with HP regarding this matter.
The ink blob does not happen every time. And it is not the end of the world. My guess is it is an easy fix that I can do or it may be a simple component replacement. But at this rate, I suspect I'll never know. Probably going to be my last HP product.
