Since converting some documents from Word 97 to .docx some of the them print certains sections with a grey shadow.  When viewed on screen they are perfect.  I have downloaded and run the HP test s/w - all OK.  I have tried highlighting the defective text and altering the style but could not find a way to delete shadowing.  I have also tried cutting and pasting the offending section back into the same document with "Merge formatting" to no avail. Any ideas???

Welcome to the HP Support Community

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Are you facing the same issue while making a copy?

If the copy is working fine, this could be a printer driver issue.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor.

HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free tool for Windows to help resolve common printing and scanning problems, such as missing or corrupt print drivers, connectivity issues, firewall issues, scan error messages, printer offline, and print jobs stuck in the print queue.

Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03286146 to Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor.

If you are facing the same issue while making a copy, I suggest you do a Hard Reset on the printer

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Then click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-deskjet-f4200-all-in-one-printer-series/3390945/model/357130... and follow the solution.

Try to print.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Hi Raj

Thanks for your suggestions.  I already ran the Print and Scan Doctor and also confirmed I have the latest drivers.  Am away from home for a couple of days and will try your hard printer re-set when I get home, also check what happens on copies.  In the meantime I will print a couple of documents from my laptop to see if I get the same problem so we can isolate the source.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Raj

I have followed your instructions very closely.  The test page printed perfectly, however, both Word and .pdf documents still had problems.   I also turned Photofix off and disabled Advanved printing, all with no effect - I still get a grey shadow showing about 10% below every black letter and border.  It looks like the shadow effecct that you can generate in Powerpoint except that it is directly below the main image.  Could it be something to do with Overspray?  I do not get the same problem printing colour text.  Any further ideas?

Kind regards

Chris
