HP 8610
macOS 10.14 Mojave

My HP 8610 randomly started printing double-sided and despite me turning off all options for that, it still prints double-sided. I have never changed any settings for it to print double-sided and I've had this printer for several years. I have went through many threads in this forum, following all steps, including resetting to factory default, and it is still printing double-sided, even though the check boxes for that option are unchecked/turned off.

Does this happen from a specific application or all applications?

The print settings for Mac are application specific and cannot be made default until you create a preset for the same.

Refer to this link to adjust the print settings.

Ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with its software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:

Update printer firmware

Update software on Mac

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

6.) Try to print.

Let me know the outcome.

Cheers 🙂

Hi there. Thank you for your reply.

The issue occurred with Word docs as well as PDFs.

I had already performed each troubleshooting option listed in your reply and the issue still persisted. That's when I decided to post here.

I decided to go into the File>Print settings again for Word and Adobe Acrobat and double check. Still, they were listed as Default Settings and double-sided printing was unchecked. I decided to click off to another setting, then click back to Default (in both programs) and it suddenly works.

What gets me is I've had this printer and iMac for several years and have not had any issues, nor have I changed any settings. I'm usually quite good at troubleshooting, but this one stumped me, as I had mentioned, I had already performed those steps (and others not listed) with no results.

Regardless, everything appears to be working properly at this point.

Thank you for your reply!

I am using a 6960 printer. This solution did not work. I'm trying to print from Sibelius (printing music). There is an option that reads "Print one-sided" I click that, and I am still getting duplex pages. I need this fixed soon or printer has to go back.
