When you turn on the printer, it stays stuck on the 'checking printer screen' and doesn't go any further.
- When it first turns on you can hear the parts inside moving for a moment, then it stops.
- The printer was recently moved to another room. It was only really moved a couple meters and didn't have to take any stairs. Still, I don't know how gentle my folks were when they moved it.
- Before this error it was always plugged into an extension cord, but I have it directly on the wall now.
- I tried letting it sit unplugged for a couple of minutes and holding the power button to remove all charge, all to no avail.
- I don't believe we had any power outages while it was plugged in.
That's really all of the relevant info I can provide. It was working one day, we moved it just down the hall, and now it's broken. Is there anything else I can try? Is there a way to factory reset without using the screen?
Thank you for your help in advance.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out. I understand your printer is stuck at checking printer screen.
- Did you make any changes to your printer?
- When was the last time it worked fine?
Use the following steps to reset the product. Make sure you connect the product directly to a wall outlet and not a surge protector or power strip.
-
Press the Power button (
) to turn on the product.
-
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
-
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
-
Wait at least 15 seconds.
-
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
-
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
-
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button (
) to turn it on.
