Hi I’m a college student with a desk jet wireless printer and I’m not allowed to use it with the WiFi. Am I able to buy a cord to connect it with my laptop and will it still work?

Yes, printer has 1 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port, you can connect printer to your computer using USB printer cable which looks like the following image:
