Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 6978
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I suddenly can't print from my HP OfficeJet Pro 6978. I printed earlier today, but Windows 10 abruptly stopped recognizing the printer. I reinstalled the driver, but that didn't help; the installation software can't find the printer, either, although it's connected via USB.

Bad USB cable or not connected correctly.

Bad USB port on computer, have you tried another port?

Bad USB port on 6978, have you tried on another computer?

I think I tried every USB port on my computer; nothing worked. I'm wondering about the cable also; I will try that as soon as I can obtain one. Don't have another computer to try.

Tried a different USB cable. When I plug it into my computer, the computer makes a special noise. It made that noise when I used both the old and the new cable, and I can print a test page -- but I can't print from any application. Devices & Printers window says the printer is not connected, although it is shown there as the default printer.

Have you tried to delete then add the printer?
