I found very helpful info at

[content removed.]

It actually fixed my printer automatically.  I then followed the steps above to turn OFF automatic firmware updates

Exact same issue with my MFP m181Fw I too have a Mac. I also own a HP monochrome laser printer that I have disconnected completely until I can ensure HP have no access to it. All my settings were set to not allow updates, disabled cartridge protection and security and no data to be sent to HP. After that update these settings had all been changed and not by me. It is highly discerning that this update occurred when I had all updates turned off.

none of the ‘solutions’ offered have worked as I can not even access my advanced settings or gain the correct network on the printer or through the app. I’ve hammered these forums with what happened on the 15th of December after that unauthorised firmware update, even a friend bringing her HP toners over to help me out did nothing to resolved the issues. Lovely gift from HP for Christmas 🤬

May all on these forums have an awesome festive season no matter how or where you celebrate.

When my issue first happened I managed to find on the HP website a firm to fill out to request a contact number for tech support, I refuse to use WhatsApp! I completed that form and received a case number and a contact phone number, that was Tuesday 15th December, that form has now disappeared and has been replaced with a ‘use WhatsApp’ to chat with technical support! and other links have been put under maintenance. This is one of the original links I’d accessed. I have a direct phone number for support in Australia if anyone needs it, other countries I’m sure can call the number I have to chose their country’s HP support.

Did you ever find a solution for the M180nw firmware download?  There has got to be people that can share it?  I'm having the same trouble with my in-laws printer!1 Pain

Hi, nope, every link to access a downgrade has been removed. I received a new printer from HP on Christmas Eve! I’m not opening or setting it up until I have in writing that HP will not sabotage or hold my equipment hostage again! My case with the Australian authorities is open and ongoing. I suggest you all do the same!

hope all had an awesome festive celebration!

I am so sick of this crap.  I will **NEVER** buy another HP device...  ever.

Yes...  you need to downgrade the firmware, but if you don't disable IPv6, the system will keep updating to newest firmware.

I believe this is where I found the older firmware for my M180nw.  Also, make sure to disable IPv6 - this is apparently how HP is updating the firmware.
