Hi all!
I just hooked up an HP Envy 7640 printer I bought from Staples earlier this month. I always wanted one of these just to have one, but the original price always offset me. This was a clearance deal I got for only $40.
I set it up with Instant Ink and all, and I wanted to test the photo printing capabilities. but only in B&W first.
I go to print a photo in black and white and...there's no option to select between "Black / Color".
I read about single cartridge mode, and I tried removing the black cartridge and was able to print in a grayscale with just the color cartridge. Pardon me if I'm a bit spoiled from my HP Pagewide 377dw, but, do I seriously need to take a cartridge out just to print photos in black and white/grayscale?
I also want to conserve ink, so I'd like to print in "Black Ink Only", like I do with my Pagewide.
Is this possible?
Thanks in advance.

Edit:
P.S. Though I have an instant ink subscription with this, I want to conserve ink because I have one black non-instant ink catrdige. Just thought I'd clarify.

Hi,
Please try Greyscale "No" option when print colors.
If you wish to use Black ink Only, please try
(a) Double click printer icon on desktop,
(b) Click Set Preferences,
(c) Click Advanced,
(d) Select "Black Ink only" for Print in Grayscale
(e) Click Ok/Apply ...
Note: Printer still needs all color inks and it will consume a very small amount of inks during the warming up process.
And final note: Using Instant Ink, you don't need to worry about colors oe B&W, all pages are the same, a page full of colors or only few lines in black.
Regards.
