HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My problem started when I replaced my cyan cartridge. After I replaced it with a new HP cyan cartridge (951) a message pop out that said cartridge is depleted. So I bought a new one and installed it. The message that pop out is there is a problem with the printer or the ink system. And the printer will not work.

Hi @GLORIA4133,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand that you're receiving a “There is a problem with the printer or ink system” error after replacing your cyan cartridge on the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer (N911g), and that you're using genuine HP 951 cyan ink cartridges. We appreciate you confirming that the cartridges are original HP and not third-party products.

To help resolve the issue, please follow the steps below in the order provided:

1: Power Reset the Printer

  1. Turn the printer ON, if it's not already.
  2. With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet, then into the printer.
  6. Turn the printer on if it doesn't power on automatically.

2: Reseat the Ink Cartridges

  1. Open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove all ink cartridges (including cyan).
  3. Check for any ink buildup or debris on the cartridge contacts and inside the cartridge slot. Gently clean with a lint-free cloth if needed.
  4. Reinsert the cartridges one at a time, ensuring each one clicks securely into place.
  5. Close the cartridge access door.

3: Clean the Printhead

Sometimes this error relates to a clogged or faulty printhead. Follow these steps:

  1. On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
  2. Allow the cleaning process to complete.
  3. If the issue persists, perform a second-level clean from the same menu.

4: Update Firmware (Optional but Recommended)

If your printer is connected to the internet:

  • Navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
  • Install any available firmware updates.
